New Jurassic Park Comic Series on the Way

Paleontologists discovered a huge bone in my pants last night after reading about a new Jurassic Park comic on the way from IDW. Get the full details here, but in nut-shell, IDW will re-publish all the Topps Jurassic Park comics from the 90s and also launch an all-new Jurassic Park series.

The first 5-issue arc takes places thirteen years after the events depicted in the first JP movie (hopefully wisely ignoring the two sequels). Tim and Lex (all grown up and surprisingly not mentally unbalanced after almost being eaten by a variety of large extinct animals) are both involved in some way with Islas Nublar and Sorna. Hold onto your butts.

Natalie Portman’s going to produce and star in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. At least according to CNN Entertainment (full story). I await a retraction. Until then, I celebrate.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies NOT Headed to TV

So last week word break that Seth Grahame-Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was going to be turned into a TV show (mea culpa for the lack of an update–busy at the “real” job). It turns out it was just some asshole with a Twitter account pretending to be Seth. He says the plan is, and always was, to make a movie from the extremely clever book. Full disclosure: absolutely LOVE the idea of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (being a pop remixer myself), absolutely can’t imagine actually reading the whole thing. Definitely looking forward to a movie though. [Thanks FEARnet and Kate Z]

Well Guy Ritchie is making Sherlock Holmes cool again, so we might as well have him fight zombies right? From DC imprint WildStorm Comics comes Victorian Undead. The first issue just came out and it actually looks pretty awesome. I’ll definitely be picking this up when it hits TPB (that’s Trade Paper Back for all you non-comic geeks). If you can’t wait, hit your local comic book store and mix it up with the nicest, nerdiest dudes on the planet.

Here’s how I’d envision it:

Holmes took to the window, immediately drew his conclusion, and cast a concerned glance back at me. “When the life is gone from a man and no blood courses through his veins and no pain is felt in his limbs there remains but one target perhaps vulnerable to the skilled marksman.”

“I’m sorry, Holmes. I don’t quite follow.”

“The head, Watson. Aim for the head.”

The Walking Dead: Interview

MTV put this up a month ago, but I didn’t see it until tonight. Shawshank/Green Mile/The Mist writer-director Frank Darabont is looking to bring Robert Kirkman’s epic graphic novel series “The Walking Dead” to the small screen (AMC specifically). This I knew. But MTV has an interview up with Kirkman about Darabont’s involvement and how the comic book might translate to the medium. Says Kirkman about Darabont: “If you’ve seen ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ or ‘The Mist,’ you know he gets to the heart of the characters and shows them dealing with extremes. It’s a match made in heaven.”

It really is. Darabont is awesome, as is “The Walking Dead.” If you haven’t check it out, get your ass over to Amazon and get busy readin’ or get busy dyin’.
