Look, I’m not a proud man. I run a zombie web site and I haven’t bought or played Left 4 Dead 2 yet. It’s not because I didn’t love the first (which I do) or want it (which I do), it just happens that they released it the week after Modern Warfare 2. Why on Earth would they do that? Anyway, the follow-up to the greatest zombie game of all time (sorry, Zombies Ate My Neighbors) has been released, and you need to know if it’s worth buying. Apparently, it is. Here’s the round up:
“…[L4D2] remains one of the most distinctive co-operative titles out there, and allows for some of the most nerve-searing team-based multiplayer gaming on the market.”
Official XBox Magazine: 9.5/10
“…Left 4 Dead 2 is an undisputable improvement over its predecessor in every way, and it steals its own crown as best co-op game on the Xbox. It’s chainsaw-twirlingly good.”
“Incredible cooperative and competitive multiplayer is brilliantly designed around the new maps, modes and enemies.“
“Pros: Scavenge is a great new multiplayer mode; new campaigns have better and more varied crescendo events; melee weapons are fantastic.
Cons: AI teammates can be frustrating; a lot less narrative than I expected.”
“It’s a lot to catalog. Honestly, it’s probably stupid to try. The point is, yeah, there’s more than enough to call this a complete sequel. If there was any concern going into this thing, it was that maybe it’d represent a collection of tweaks and touches that’d be better suited to expanding the first game, and there are sure to be a few who hold on to that opinion. Personally, I think this sucker earned the 2 at the end of its name.”
So there it is. Go buy it. The press average is around 9/10. Pretty awesome reviews.
